What is it?
Propionic acid is a substance used in food processing, perfumes, and other industries as a preservative, herbicide, fungicide,
and mold-inhibitor.
How can I avoid it?
Avoidance requires reading the product labels, package inserts, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and on occasion, direct communication with the manufacturer.
Direct contact with foods or products containing propionic acid may cause symptoms including burning, irritation and redness. Direct contact may occur on the skin, lips or mouth. Although it is rare, it is possible that ingestion of this substance could cause generalized symptoms such as itching or redness of the skin.
